The Parish of Renmore, as we know it today, was established in 1971. Canon Jack O’Connor was its first parish priest and he quickly set about the task of building schools to cater for the rapidly growing population. Scoil Chaitríona Junior enrolled 104 boys and 103 girls on 2nd July 1973 under its first principal, Roisín Bean Mhic Cumhaill. The other five teachers on the staff at the time were Mrs. Joan Ray, Mrs. Eileen O’Donnell, Mrs. Mary Smith, Sr. Noirín Concannon and Ms. Máire Geoghegan Quinn. There was one Second class, one First class, two Senior Infant classes and two Junior Infant classes. In 1974 the Senior School opened using classrooms just completed in what is now the Junior School. In July 1975 the Senior School pupils and teachers moved into their own section of the school. Mr. Richard Burke T.D., Minister for Education, officially opened the new schools, and Most Rev. Dr. Michael Browne, Bishop of Galway, blessed the new complex on September 26th.

School opens at 8.40am (for 8.50am start) and finishes at 1.30pm for infant classes, 2.30pm for first and second classes.

Hallowe'en Walk

We had our Hallowe'en walk today. Most of the children and teachers in the school dressed up in fancy dress clothes. Our walk is a sponsored walk - it is not too far but it is great fun. We hope we didn't scare anyone going by. A huge "Thank You" to all who participated, made costumes, got children dressed up, and especially to all who sponsored us in today's walk,

Hallowe'en Walk

It is October and all classes are beginning to get ready for Hallowe'en. Watch out for great Hallowe'en art all round the school. The highlight of Hallowe'en for us is our annual fundraiser - our "Hallowe'en Walk". We will be dressing up for Hallowe'en and walking round Renmore on the morning of Friday 23rd October. Thanks to all for help with the sponsorship money, and with the costumes. See you all on the 23rd!

We are thrilled to have a won the 2009 Greenwave Photograph Award for 2009, with our photo of frogs in frogspawn. Today we were pleased and honoured to have Éanna Ní Lamhna from Greenwave, Oonagh Meeghan from Discover Science and Engineering, and Andrew the photographer, all the way from Dublin to present us with our prize. We won a tripod, a camera case, and a video camera which we will use to take lots of video footage of our science work, and other exciting events in our school. Both Oonagh and Éanna talked to us about science and being scientists. They were so interesting. Well done to all the students and teachers who watch the buds, birds and frogs in spring and who take part in the Greenwave programme each year.

New School Laptop

Teach Ró-Bheag

A very hearty congratulations to Ms. McLoughlin's Senior Infants (Room 5), who did our school proud in all 3 levels of the Féile Scoildrámaíochta. They participated in the All-Ireland finals of the drama festival, in Mullingar on Thursday, April 23rd, 2009. They were superb, and a fantastic day was had by all.

Well done too, especially to Ms.Cunningham for all her help with the music, to Len for the fantastic sets, to Anne for our great make up, to Ms.Carleton, Ms. Long, Ms. Hynes, Maura and Mrs. Smith for your help and support, and to all our parents for the wonderful costumes. It was truly a magnificent team effort. Míle buíochas díbh go léir.

Congratulations Again

to our Senior Infant classes from Rooms 7 and 5 who represented our school so wonderfully in the Connacht finals of An Féile Scoildrámaíochta, yesterday, March 11th. Both classes performed so well and each actor and actress was superb!! Maith sibh go léir.

Exciting news: Room 5 are through to the All Ireland Finals of the Féile in Mullingar at the end of April. Well done to everyone who has put so much time, effort and enthusiasm into making this such an exciting Dráma for everyone.

Congratulations to Ms. Long's Senior Infants for a fantastic performance in yesterday's competition. Our school is so proud of all of you. This class are through to the next round of the Féile Scoildrámaíochta, in Castlebar, on either 10th, 11th or 12th of March!

Senior infants from Ms. Long's class (Room 7 with Sleeping Beauty) and Senior infants from Ms. McLoughlin's class (Room 5 with A Squash and a Squeeze) are performing plays in Irish for a competition on Thursday, 26th February.
Beidh Codladh Céad Bliain agus Teach Ró-Bheag sna comórtais drámaíochta in Indreabhán ar Déardaoin seo chugainn. Tá neart cleachtadh á dhéanamh acu na laethannta seo. Go néirí an t-adh leo leis na drámaí.

Carol Service

We had our Carol Service last night (Wednesday, 17th of December). It was just lovely. The children sang so well, the junior infants looked gorgeous dressed up as people and animals from the Nativity Story and the "Amen" dance at the end was spectacular. Well done to all the children, teachers and parents who put so much time and effort into making the night a really special one.

Book FairMonday 1st December to Friday 5th 2008

This week is Book Fair week in our school. We had an author and poet Pete Mollinaux visit our school today. He did some interesting drama with us, told us stories, showed us a rainmaker, sang a song on a guitar and told us always to use our imaginations. He was great! All this week we can visit the hall and see the books in the fair (with our parents if we like). We can buy the books. Money raised goes towards buying books for the school. Such a great cause!

Beauty and the Beast

Today our school had a visit from a Theatre Group. They performed the pantomime "Beauty and the Beast".It was a marvellous show and we really enjoyed it. Some of us will be in the Renmore version of Beauty and the Beast and will be performing in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway at the start of January 2009.

Protest Rally

How do you feel about the edudational changes in the budget?
Did you know that :

Class sizes will be increased. This will mean that thousands of children will be in classes of over 30

Each shool will only be allowed two English as an Additional Language Teachers irrespective of the number of non English speaking students in the school

From Jan 1st there will be no substitute cover for teachers on uncertified sick leave. This will lead to serious disruption in schools as the class(es) of the absent teacher(s) will have to be divided.

The free book grant for families with financial difficulties is abolished.
Funding for special equipment and library books will not now be given to schools.

The Plan for Students with Special Educational Needs has been delayed. This will delay improvements for children with special needs in our school.

In order to voice our disapproval of these changes, parents and teachers in Galway are attending a Protest Rally on Saturday 8th November. We will assemble in Eyre Square at 1:45pm. In the interests of your children, we strongly urge you to attend. Be your child's voice.

There was a great turnout for the protest on Saturday. And a big Thank you to those who attended to support us on this important cause. We were all wrapped up for the march as the weather was awful but that did not lessen the crowd. Lets hope it makes a difference!

Witches Walk

Friday, 24th October, 2008 The weather was windy, but dry and sunny (weren't we lucky). Witches, vampires, princesses, ghosts and many other assorted people arrived at school to take part in our annual "Witches Walk".
It was a thoroughly enjoyable walk, and we made lots of money for the school and for charity. (Total to be announced when all the money is in). Well done to all the children, parents and teachers for the huge effort involved in getting everyone dressed up, and for the money raised.

If you live in Renmore watch out for witches, ghosts, monsters, princesses, fairies and mummies at the end of October.......because at the end of October Scoil Chaitríona Junior pupils (and teachers) will be out on our Witches Walk. It is a chance for all to dress up, to go for a short walk, and to help raise some much needed funds for our school and for charity. We are all looking forward to our sponsored walk, it is one of the fun highlights of our school year. Please support us if you can. Thank you.

We have just heard that Sleeping Beauty (Codladh Céad Bliain) is heading to Mullingar! Well done to Ms. McLoughlin's senior infants for their great teamwork in getting to the All Ireland Drama finals in Mullingar on Friday, April 25th at 12:30! Go néirí an t-adh libh.
