Well done to all!

Well done to all who braved our freezing weather to come join us for our annual Carol Service.
 What a special night!

Tonight's carol service was a huge success, thanks to all the parents, teachers, SNAs and most of all to the children who braved freezing conditions to come and sing for all of us.  You were superb, and really helped to bring the message of Christmas to us all.  May you all have a very happy and peaceful Christmas surrounded by those you love.  Thank you to all.

Dick Whittington pantomime

Ugandan display

A day in the life of a Ugandan Child
We went to see Miss Tierney's Senior Infant class perform a play today in the halla. It was about a day in the life of a child from Uganda. It was very interesting. We saw how the children there begin the day with getting water from the well and collecting firewood to cook breakfast. The children then made their way to school and sang a lovely Good Morning song to the teacher. At break time the children had lots of fun playing together and they played with a ball made out of banana skins. We heard lions roaring and monkeys going wild. The children finished the play by singing and dancing to a lovely song about Africa. Well done to all the children in Miss Tierney's class. We really enjoyed your play.

Science and Technology Festival Event at our school!

We had a visit from Armagh Planetarium Stardome to our school today, Friday, November 19th, during Science Week.  Some of the classes got to visit the stardome, and the other classes did magnetism or electricity workshops.  It was a fantastic event.  Thanks so much to the planetarium, and to the Galway Science and Technology festival for this wonderful event.

Have you time to spare this coming Sunday?  If so, be sure to visit UCG (Bailey Allen Hall) between 11am and 6pm on Sunday November 21st, for the Galway Science and Technology Exhibition.  Fun for all the family, and it's all FREE!!!!

Congratulations

Congratulations to Jane Mc Loughlin who won Teacher of Primary Science Award 2010.  http://scoilchaitrionajnrmsmcloughlin.blogspot.ie/ Jane is the only person to win this years award in Ireland or England (and the first Irish primary school teacher). Presentation of the awards was at the Institute of Physics Awards event in London in September. We are all so proud of Jane, it couldn't be awarded to a more dedicated and deservering teacher. Well done from Eileen and all the staff and children in Scoil Chaitriona Junior.

Pet Day in Scoil Chaitríona Jnr

Today, we were very lucky. People from pet world came to visit some children in Scoil Chaitríona Jnr. They taught us about different and unusual animals. It was very interesting. We saw a rabbit, a guinea pig, a snake and a bearded Dragon. We learned how to look after pets. We also got to feel the different animals. Here are some pictures of the animals we saw. Thank you to all at petworld.

Senior School Band

Friday, March 12th,2010

Today the Senior School marching band marched round Renmore. It was really thrilling. We made St. Patrick's Day headbands and went out to watch the parade. We watched it when it started, and again as it finished. The day was cloudy, and much cooler than recent days, but it was still nice. We really enjoyed watching the band. Well done to all in the senior school for putting on such a great parade for us!

Féile Scoildrámaíochta - Drama Competition

Friday, 12th February 2010
Results were on the radio at 6pm (instead of at 6:30)! Unfortunately Scoil Chaitríona were not among this year's prizewinners, but both classes did us proud on Tuesday! A hearty Congratulations to all involved!!! You were great!!!!
Tuesday, 9th February 2010

Well done to Ms. McLoughlin's Senior Infant class and to Ms. Tierney's Junior Infant class who represented our school and performed so well at today's Féile Scoildrámaíochta. It was a terrific day - our bus left to go to Inverin at 9am (an early start for all, so that costumes and make-up could be on before we left). We really enjoyed watching the two plays before ours - a musical about penguins by a 3rd or 4th class, and a musical about Jack and the Beanstalk by a Junior Infant class. They were both great. Our plays went very well too. We are delighted. Results for all the plays will be announced on Radio na Gaeltachta (an Irish Language radio station) on Friday at 6:30pm. Teachers will know the results early next week.Well done to all our children, and to all the parents who provided the costumes, our fan club parents who came to support us, to Anne and Nessa who did our make up, to Len for the fabulous sets, to Ane and all the teachers and SNAs who worked so hard to help us in our dramas.
Congratulations to all!
